If you feel you can commit to an animal, CARE needs more people willing to open up their homes to dogs and cats looking for a fresh start in life.  By fostering an animal you'll be freeing up space in the centre so that CARE can rescue more animals in desperate need.  Animal fostering plays a vital part in the rehabilitation of animals and drastically improves their chance of finding a new home.

Many animals CARE takes in have either suffered or are not used to the affection they deserve. Living with a foster family helps to provide them with one-to-one attention, allowing them to build up their confidence and get used to a normal lifestyle.  Other animals don't cope well in an animal centre environment and this is where CARE needs people to provide them with a real home, even if it is only on a temporary basis.

While all fosterers are responsible for the welfare of the animal in their charge, CARE will provide food and any medical attention required.

Foster Opportunities

What can make the difference between an animal LIVING or DYING? YOU!

Do you have room in your heart and home for an animal to stay with you temporarily?

We are seeking fosters to help us save even more animals. Dogs, cats, kittens, puppies and other animals who are waiting to come into the CARE4me program. They must wait until we have a foster home or even worse, loose their life!

What is fostering?

Fostering means that an animal stays with you on a temporary basis. The animal still belongs to CARE so you do not actually have to adopt but be more like a waystation on the road from stray to adopted.

Fostering includes bringing the animal to some adoption hours (you never have to stay with them--we'll do that), helping with transport to the vet when possible and generally giving them a safe, loving place to be while they seek that forever home.

What animals need fostering?

Puppies, kittens, dogs and cats! We need fosters for nursing kittens and puppies, senior animals, animals recovering from injuries and medical issues, and healthy animals just needing temporary 'digs'. You decide what type, species, size and age you would like to care for and we'll give you an animal to foster. The opportunities are limited only by your experience and desire to do.

What does it cost?

Short answer: nothing.

While any foster may donate any portion they feel inclined (hey, we'll never turn down help...) CARE4Me will pay all costs for food, milk, supplies and vet care needed. We'll supply crates, carriers. You supply the love!

What do I get?

You get the unconditional love of an animal who needs you in order to stay alive. You get to be a life-changing force for good. This is 'Who wants to be a Superhero' for real !!

You get our deep gratitude for opening your heart and your home to an animal in need.

Does it really matter if I do this?

More than you can imagine. The unvarnished truth is this: The number we can save from staying in abusive situations or dying in other shelters is directly dependent on how many foster homes we have.

Do you want to see just a small sample of CARE animals whose lives have already been saved by having foster parents? Of course you do. Check out our Recent Adoptions page and see the lives saved!

Where do you start?

Let's make sure you are in the right place first. If you found an animal or are surrendering an animal and are willing to foster it, this is NOT where you start. You need to go to our Get Help page and answer the questions on that page to be directed to the correct form or resource.

If you have room in your heart and home to help an animal by providing a foster home, please call Sara Bell on 027 603 3495
